- Benedict XVI has appointed Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, as a consultor to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications for a five-year term.
Anderson, who has served as Supreme Knight since 2000, also serves as a member of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, a consultor to the Pontifical Council for the Family and to the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.
He was also the only Catholic layman from North America to serve as an auditor to two recent World Synods of Bishops, in October 2005 and October 2001.
In 1998, Pope John Paul II appointed him a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.
Anderson holds degrees in philosophy from Seattle University and in law from the University of Denver.
