Oct 13, 2004On October 10, 2004, the Most Reverend Paul J. Loverde, Bishop of Arlington, Va., culminated years of work by Fr. Diamond Council #6292, as he blessed and dedicated the Right to Life Memorial erected by the council at St. Leo the Great church in Fairfax, Va. The centerpiece of the memorial is a near life sized statue of Our Lady of Providence handcrafted in Italy from white Cararra marble. Our Lady’s adoring glance at her baby Son sends a clear message that life is God’s loving gift to all of us. Fairfax, the location of the memorial, was originally called the Town of Providence and Fr. Diamond Council was originally named Providence Council. Placed in front of the main entrance to the church, the memorial features a 16-foot square brick plaza leading to the statue. Donors financed the memorial by paying for inscribed bricks. Inscriptions ranged from biblical quotations to memorials to deceased family members and many feature the KofC emblem.
